Classic Homemade Waffles

A brief summary of the recipe.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 1.5 cups buttermilk
  • 0.5 cup canola oil
  • 1.5 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 210 g all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp kosher salt
  • cooking spray
  • pure maple syrup for serving
  • unsalted butter for serving
  • waffle iron

Instructions

Preparation Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, beat the egg and then mix in the buttermilk, oil, and vanilla until everything is well blended.
  • In a separate large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients and stir lightly, making sure to keep the batter a little lumpy. Allow the batter to rest for 15 minutes.
  • While the batter is resting, heat the waffle iron according to its instructions and lightly coat the surface with cooking spray.
  • Pour enough batter into the center of the iron to cover it completely. Cook the waffle until it turns golden brown, which should take about 5 minutes. Shift the cooked waffle to a plate and cover it with foil to keep it warm. Continue this process with the remaining batter.
  • Serve the waffles on individual plates, drizzling with syrup and adding a pat of butter on top.
